Public Program:
CANDIDATE in Concert: A Gesture Absolutely Vile
November 10 2013 at 16:00

Programmed in conjunction with “Performance Archiving Performance,” a presentation of works that engage archive as medium, on view in the Fifth Floor Resource Center from November 6, 2013–January 12, 2014.

An ongoing collaboration between Lovett/Codagnone and musician Michele Pauli (of Italian band Casino Royale), CANDIDATE produces extreme electro-industrial dance music and noise to accompany many of Lovett/Codagnone’s visual artworks. Their live shows often incorporate performances by major figures of experimental theater and film. This concert, entitled A Gesture Absolutely Vile, features special appearances by actor and member of the New York City Players Jim Fletcher, dancer and Kinkaleri company member Marco Mazzoni, actor and founding member of Wooster Group Kate Valk, and artist and performer Julie Tolentino. An installation by Lovett/Codagnone coyly subverts traditional power dynamics between audience and performers, providing a stark atmospheric environment for the event.
