Public Program:
New Museum First Saturdays for Families: George Condo: Mental States
February 5 2011
This month, families are invited to explore “George Condo: Mental States,” the American artist’s first retrospective including paintings and sculpture. Condo’s work explores the idea of “artificial realism,” which has given life to imagined characters. Conventionally, a portrait depicts an individual who exists, or once existed. Condo’s portraits do not. Have a conversation with members of your family or close friends and discover what wonderful and unexpected stories can emerge by placing Condo’s extraordinary characters in a fantastic world. Inspired by Condo’s artwork, create portraits of your own imagined characters. New Museum First Saturdays for Families are free of charge. This program is designed and recommended for families with children four to fifteen years old, and includes free New Museum admission for up to two adults per family. Children under eighteen are always admitted free. No preregistration is required. Space is limited and tickets are given out on a first-come, first-served basis. Your entire party must be present; tickets will not be given to partial parties.
